Finally, the weather is cooling, the leaves have turned, and we are in the home stretch toward winter. It took a long time this year, as we had a very long summer. I love this time of year, the days get shorter, we cool off, the trees put on a tremendous display, it’s finally ok not to be running around like a frantic chicken.
I look forward to autumn. Not just to see the glorious leaf display, but to wind things down. Preparing to put things to rest, all the activities of the summer, move into the quiet stillness of winter. This is the time of year to complete things, wrap them up, slow down, and get ready for a long sleep. Complete projects, harvest what we have sown. Moving toward completion. What have we learned?
Humans, at least modern cultures, don’t recognize the change of the seasons. We just go plowing forward, not honoring the body’s need to slow down, complete, take advantage of the longer nights by sleeping more. But this is the natural cycle of the body.
Where in your life do you need to slow down and honor what is most important to you? What do you need to harvest/complete in your life?
