“Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wilderness is a necessity; and that mountain parks and reservations are useful not only as fountains of timber and irrigating rivers, but as fountains of life.” John.Muir
Why is it that we are so removed from nature? We have so many distractions, both in our head, and ones we create in life (i.e. technology), that we are not often present to our lives, or we don’t step out into the natural world. We don’t often take the time to just observe, breathe in life (oxygen deep into the body, and we don’t check in with our other senses). By getting out in nature, and breathing it in, we can access more balance, we can relax those over-worked nerves, and we can be refreshed.
Even if we don’t live in the mountains we we can find trees, a plant, or something that reminds us of the natural world. This is still beneficial! Stop, be present, observe, without judgement or expectation. Our lives depend on it.
What do you need to add a bit of wilderness into your life? How might that make a difference in how you relate to everything else?
